Betiy was in the Ghetto in the Ukraine. She remembers being closed in a room, hiding, when the Germans were rounding everyone up. They missed her but found her mother who deliberately led them away. She was killed. Betiy’s father was at the front fighting with the Red Army. As a child of five she then lived in the cellar with the rats and mice. She remembers them climbing on her and everything else. Her grandparents were also killed in the Holocaust. She remembers they always did good things for people. Her family was Ultra-orthodox. Betiy has recorded her story on tape with the Shoah Foundation (Holocaust Memorial).

After the war she lived in Tashkin and there was an earthquake there in 1964. She moved to the Ukraine and there was an earthquake right after she arrived. Every place she has moved to an earthquake took place soon afterward, including Israel. She seems very frightened as she speaks of the earthquakes.

She and her husband moved to Israel 13 yrs ago. Her husband has since died.. She has two sons, one in Jerusalem who is Orthodox, and one in her hometown. She also has grandchildren. Betiy speaks some Hebrew.

Ever since her husband died she has great trouble sleeping at night. She has many bad memories and cries when she thinks of her husband. Betiy is very hospitable, setting out drinks and snacks for us and is a gracious hostess.

Betiy also is concerned about the "old" people in her neighborhood and tries to assist them whenever she can.
